The Sattvāra story

Our story

Sattvāra takes its name from sattva — purity and balance — and vara, a ritual and an offering. Here is the longer version of who we are, how we work, and why we refuse to hurry.

The name

Two roots, held as one

  • Sattva

    सत्त्व

    purity and balance

  • Vara

    वार

    a ritual, an offering

Together they are Sattvāra: an offering of purity and balance, kept as a ritual.

Chapter I

Slow is the point

Most skincare is made to a deadline. Ours is made to a rhythm. We decided early that we would rather make a little, slowly, than a lot in a hurry.

Slow is not a side effect of working in small batches. It is the whole idea. Everything we make is given the time it asks for, and none of it can be rushed without becoming something else entirely.

So the pace you see on every page here is the real pace of the work. Nothing worth having is made in an afternoon.

Chapter II

Why we made it ourselves

We looked for someone to make it the slow way. When no one would, we made it ourselves.

Sattvāra began with a simple refusal: to make skincare faster than it deserves to be made. Everything since has been a series of small, stubborn decisions in service of that one.

Founder, Sattvāra

Made slowly. Made ourselves.

Chapter III

Twenty-one days in silver

Our signature kumkumadi oil carries the longest wait of everything we make. It rests in a silver vessel for twenty-one days, cool and undisturbed, while time does the work that heat would otherwise force.

We keep the account of those days honest. The stages below are how we understand the process today, and we flag them as pending verification until the exact method is confirmed on the record.

Process description pending verification.

Twenty-one days, stage by stage:

  1. Day 01

    Saffron enters the silver

Kashmiri saffron threads are laid into a silver vessel with cold-pressed sweet almond oil. Silver keeps the oil cool and stable while it works.

  2. Day 06

    Manjistha joins

Ground manjistha root goes in. The oil begins to take on colour, shifting from pale gold to amber.

  3. Day 13

    The colour deepens

Halfway. Nothing is heated, nothing is hurried. Time is doing what heat would otherwise force.

  4. Day 18

    Nearly there

Three days to go. The oil rests, undisturbed.

  5. Day 21

    Ready to bottle

Strained, settled and filled into amber glass. Twenty-one days for fifteen millilitres.

A Sattvāra brand mood still.

Chapter IV

A few things, chosen carefully

We would rather use a few things well than many things loudly. Every ingredient is picked for a reason we can explain, and every one is named in the open.

There is no hidden list and no filler to pad the bottle. Our signature oil names all twenty-four of its ingredients in full, because a list you can read is a promise you can check.

What we believe

We believe that great skin comes from slowing down and being kind to yourself. Skincare is not a race. It’s a simple, mindful ritual for your health.

Everything we make is made slowly, one small batch at a time. Take your time choosing. We did.
